At the Trussville City Board of Education Meeting on May 18, 2015, Dr. James Tygar Evans was hired as an elementary school principal.  Dr. Evans will join Mrs. Schmitt and Dr. Jeter on the Paine Elementary Campus for the 2015 – 2016 school year.

Dr. Evans graduated in 1984 with a BS degree in Elementary Education from the University of Alabama in Tuscaloosa. He comes to Trussville after completing 22 years in administration in Rome City Schools in Georgia.  He started his career in school administration in 1993 which included 2 years as an assistant principal at Rome Middle School, 11 years as a high school principal at Rome High School, 4 years as an elementary principal at North Heights Elementary and 5 years as principal of East Central Elementary School. Dr. Neill stated that she is delighted to have someone with 20 years of experience as a principal, especially with 9 of those years in a K-6 environment. “He will bring new perspectives and an exciting dynamic as we open three K-5 elementary schools in Trussville," Dr. Neill stated.

Why Reading Makes for a Better Life

Take a minute to read the article,  "5 Ways Reading Makes You a Better Leader, The Science Behind Reading and Influence," from Michael Hyatt.  Hyatt contends that reading can uniquely develop and empower leaders in five ways:

1. Reading makes us better thinkers.
2. Reading improves our people skills.
3. Reading helps us master communication.
4. Reading helps us relax.
5. Reading keeps us young.  (Who knew?)

A readership crisis is really a leadership crisis.     - Michael Hyatt
