TCS Administrators Learn Together

TCS Administrators met together at Magnolia Wednesday to practice and hone their skills of observation,
to collect data without interpreting or judging the information, and to collaborate with colleagues to provide meaningful, useful feedback to teachers.

The Administrator Collaborative is planned professional learning for TCS district and school administrators.  The group meets five times per year to learn together.  This year walkthroughs were intentionally added at schools for the goal of learning what to look for during walkthroughs and observations and how to provide effective, helpful feedback to the teachers.  We wanted to calibrate our own understanding of the expectations in the TCS Nine Educator Effectiveness Indicators Rubric and begin to develop shared instructional leadership practices.  The process is new and different for us all.  We are trying to provide evidence of the Nine Educator Effectiveness Indicators and to leave off our opinions.  We are finding that it is hard to do, but that it really is the best way to provide feedback.

In addition to practicing walkthroughs with feedback, group members are all involved in one of four book studies.  The groups discuss their books each time they meet.  The books include:

Extreme Ownership - How Navy Seals Lead and Win (Willink and Babin)
How to Differentiate Instruction in Academically Diverse Classrooms, 3rd Edition (Tomlinson)
Leading for Instructional Improvement: How Successful Leaders Develop Teaching and Learning Expertise
(Fink and Markholt)
Peer Coaching to Enrich Professional Practice, School Culture, and Student Learning (Robbins)
